Furnicycle — furniture designed to be reused, not replaced.
A submission to the WDO World Design Challenge 2023 imagining a circular furniture system — modular parts, transparent provenance, and an app that turns "I'm done with this" into the start of the next person's piece.
Overview
Most furniture is designed once and discarded many times. Furnicycle imagines a system where a chair, a shelf, a table all start with a shared modular spine — and ownership is a loop, not a line.
The concept pairs that hardware language with an app that handles return, repair and rehoming, treating each piece as a continuing object rather than a transaction.
Problem
Lay out the environmental cost of fast furniture and the social barriers to second-hand pieces that informed the brief.
Process
Show the challenge brief, your team setup, the timeline, and the constraints that shaped the final concept.
Solution
Walk through the modular system, the app flows for return/repair/rehome, and the brand language.
Outcome
